Situated in a residential neighborhood, this remodeled residence had strict requirements to transform and expand an existing house in to a modern home with plentiful daylight, space for indoor and outdoor entertainment, private, direct access and views, from the master suite to the pool, and privacy at all bedrooms, as well as space for day-to-day family cars and a “show garage” while remaining cost effective and not “throwing out what was already in place".
This was accomplished by reusing the existing foundation as the baseline for the project, and expanding from there. The house is split in to a “pool level” and the “master level” to define the living space and main pool access, while keeping the master suite raised and separated from the main swimming pool, via a walk-out sitting pool that allows passage from the master bedroom to the swimming pool. The master suite itself features a two-sided fireplace between the master bedroom and the master bathroom, as well as a generous master closet with skylights in both master-adjacent rooms.
The main living and gathering areas are connected in the main, double-height, volume, with clerestory windows, a large, open, kitchen, overlooking a sculpture garden, focal fire wall in the living room, wine display wall, and screened “gallery walls” to define spaces within the volume. The sculpture garden is highlighted by a backdrop of views in to the show garage, providing a glimpse in to a different type of artistry.
